Chinese researchers from Nankai University have developed a mind controlled car prototype.
According to the researchers the car can be driven forward, backward, stopped, lock and unlocked all from the backseat of the vehicle with the power of the mind.
The vehicle can also been locked and unlocked without the operator lifting a finger and only requires the driver to pay attention when changing the state of the vehicle, like when breaking.
16 EEG (electroencephalogram) sensors capture signals from the driver's brain to operate the car.
'The tester's EEG signals are picked up by this (brain signal-reading) equipment and transmitted wirelessly to the computer,' researcher Zhang Zhao told Reuters.
The system processes brain activity and categorises the signals into intentions. The computer then translates the signals into commands for the car.
Concerns over the legality of the vehicle and a lack of benefits compared to self-driving, autonomous cars could delay production of the vehicle.
