#1 Wales native, Ollie Trezise, was born with his brain growing through a crack in his skull. Ollie has a rare defect called encephalocele, where a sac-like protrusion or projection of the brain and the membranes that cover it, come through an opening in the skull.
Little Ollie was dubbed the Pinnochio Boy because of his birth defect.
#2 At 21 months old, Ollie has had many painful operations to help him breathe and to close the gap in his skull.
#3 Doctors warned the expecting mother, Amy Poole, that something was wrong with her son and they tried to explain the defect to her, after they discovered it in the 20 week scan.
#4 Doctors told her he had unexpected soft tissue growing on his face. However, Poole was still shocked by his condition after giving birth to him at the University Hospital of Wales last February.
#5 An MRI scan later confirmed that the lump was an encephalocele - a defect that causes the brain to grow through a hole in the skull, creating a protruding sac. It normally grows on the back of the skull, but Ollie's grew through the opening above his lips causing his nose to stick out like 'Pinnochio".
