As much as Android announcements have drifted from CES to MWC, there continues to be an influx of new devices and accessories introduced at the yearly electronics show.
One such device is the behemoth dubbed the “Mate 8” by Huawei. While the phone is not going to be available in the US, at least for now, the specs are some of the best we’ve ever seen, and it might be worth it to import device if it fits your needs. Here are the official specs of the device:
- Display: 6.0 inch LCD, 1920 x 1080, 368 PPI
- Operating System: Android 6.0 + EMUI 4.0
- Processor: 2.3GHz Kirin 950; Octa-core, 16nm
- Memory: 32GB ROM/3GB RAM or 64GB ROM/4GB RAM; microSD expandable up to 128GB
- Camera: 16MP OIS, F2.0, BSI CMOS, dual-tone flash, Front: 8MP, F2.4
- Battery: 4000mAh
- Dimensions: 157.1 mm × 80.6 mm × 7.9 mm; 185g
- Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.2 ; Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n/ac, 2.4G+5GHz ; USB 2.0
- Sensors: Gravity, Light, Proximity, Fingerprint, Hall, Gyroscope, Barometer, Compass
To summarize, there are 2 models of the device, only individualizing themselves based on RAM and flash storage capacity. The 32GB model has 3GB of RAM, while the 64GB model has 4GB respectively. The devices also feature a fingerprint sensor is the same position as the company’s own “Nexus 6P”, and massive 4,000 mAh batteries. They both use the same brand new octa-core “Kirin 950 SoC” processor, and feature robust optical image stabilization. Both run Android Marshmallow.
It’s apparent that these devices are obviously “flagship” tier, and Huawei is pricing them as such. If you want to get your hands on one, it will cost €599 (about $650 USD) for the 32GB model, and €699 (about $750 USD) respectively.
If you want a phone that will probably last multiple days on a single charge due to it’s 1080p screen and 4,000 mAh battery, this might be a safe bet.
