Lenovo Launches “Lemon 3” – A Premium Smartphone For $105

Over the last year or so, the idea of a premium smartphone costing an arm and a leg has turned into a fleeting memory. New manufacturers have been popping up out of nowhere to try to disrupt the space and cause the market to shift towards high-end, yet affordable devices.

This morning, Lenovo announced their new “Lemon 3” smartphone, which aims to redefine what it means to be a  “mid-ranged” device. The handset features an all-metal construction, a 5″ 1080p IPS display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon 616 chipset. The device also sports dual Dolby speakers and a 13MP rear shooter for high quality imaging. The 2750mAh battery isn’t the largest in the market, but it should hold up just fine for a display of this size and resolution.

While the device shouldn’t be written off as “flagship quality”, Lenovo is charging $105 USD for the device, which revolutionizes what it means to own a “budget” smartphone. Though other devices such as the Moto G have tried to enter the space at a similar cost, no manufacturer has been able to deliver a device of this quality at the cost Lenovo is asking. Though the handset is currently only available in China, it might be worth it to get an import just to have a back-up device on hand.
