Back in 2015 Microsoft released Build 11082 of Windows 10 to Insiders through the Fast Ring and now Microsoft is releasing the first build of 2016. Build 11099 is available for all participants of the Windows Insider Program and can be downloaded through Windows Update if Windows is set to receive new builds through the fast ring. As you might expect, this build doesn’t include any new features but more a lot of fixes for b
Gabriel Aul has explained at the Windows Blog, that the team around Windows 10 was mainly focusing on the OneCore through the holidays. OneCore is, as the name suggests, the core of the operating system and is also the shared part for all the different platforms out there in order to achieve a true universal operating system. The better the core of the operating system, the better the experience with the new operating system. Therefor it was necessary to invest enough time in the OneCore before the team is now finally able to slowly implement new features in the operating system. Gabriel Aul has explained this as follows:
Our focus through the holidays was on structural improvements to OneCore, which is the shared core of Windows across devices. The code refactoring and other engineering work we’ve been doing to optimize OneCore is nearing the point where we will be ready for teams to begin checking in new features and improvements. It will still be a few builds before any really noticeable changes show up, depending on when teams begin lighting up new features in their areas.
As you can ready above in the quote of Gabriel Aul, it will still need a few Builds until the team comes up with new features apart from the usual bug fixes. However as long as Microsoft continues working on the core of the operating system the company will be able to release new Builds of the operating system on a more regular basis. With a higher rate of releasing builds there will be also more bugs in these builds, though since Microsoft is working on the core of the operating system and is not implementing any new features at this time it shouldn’t be too painful to use these builds. Still, keep in mind that the fast ring is always a bit of an experiment you shouldn’t install these builds if you need your PC for work and have to rely on your machine.
Known Issues
Build 11099 has been released to everyone who has subscribed to the fast ring and as you might or should know, on the fast ring Microsoft is mainly releasing Builds which do still have some bugs and known issues but are stable enough to be tested by Windows Insiders overall. So as always, together with what’s new in this build, Gabriel Aus has also published a list of known issues of the build. If you are planning to install this build, or you have subscribed to the fast ring I recommend you to read this so that you know what you can expect from this. In case you were looking for them at the Windows Blog, have a look at the Windows Insider App instead, where Microsoft is now releasing known issues for new builds:
